I blew the dust off my old Tropico CD and came up a simple new contest... quick and easy.
Make a random island.
Smallest size, highest mountains.
Lowest Minerals and Vegetation
Most Water, lowest population.
Hardest Economic and Political
Zero Random Events
Shortest Time period.
Default scoring
UN Free Elections.
With this setup, your difficulty level will be 900.
The game only lasts 10-years, so it can be played quickly.... maybe 15-20 minutes.
You dont have enough time to get any industries going, and the residents just start complaining about healthcare and church.
You only have one election, the difficulty of which will depend on the dictator traits you choose.
My first try, I had a score of 927.
My second try, I would have lost the election "next month" if it werent for the American gunboat. |

Here you see my latest try. I got a decent island layout, other than the crappy dock-in-a-peninsula.
Before and after pictures. |

| Dont you have some sort of photo editing software? Microsoft Office comes with one or two... Personally, I use my trusty Paintshop Pro, but I could use Microsoft Photo Editor too. You could even use MSPaint... It can open a PCX. |

My office suite is the freebee Open Office.
I'll have to send it to my nephew to convert it. |

MSPaint comes with Windows. It is in Programs/Accessories/Paint.
It will open a PCX and write a JPG. |

I tried that.
It says:
Paint cannot read this file. This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is currently not supported. |

| That is really weird. The Paint I have (with WinME) can open those PCX files just fine when I do a File/Open and Choose "All File" types. |

| I just checked my MSPaint here at work on XP, and it will open PCX files as well. I can just right-click on the file and "open with" and choose Paint. Also, when Tropico creates the PCX, it also leaves the image in the clipboard, so you should be able to just "paste" into Paint. |

I did the right click and open with Paint method earlier and just tried pasting in.
No luck.
I need to get it to a machine with Photoshop |

Oh, and that treasury size?
It was only one green and a couple yellow squares worth, but the mountain top had gold!
Built that first thing and the US was all over me.
I was doing some serious flag waving at the end. |

| Yes. I have found that one little gold-mine to be invaluable.... and it helps to pick traits that favor the US. I will have to play this again tonight and see what I get. |

You built more buildings this time, huh?
More people too.
Was that because you built a second construction site? |

Look at this wretched island....
The farm on the little left-hand island is sitting smack-on-top of the gold deposit too, so I had to take it down. Luckily, the construction site is close by :P
I ended up with a score of 817 |

I dunno. That second island looks plenty flat. I would have packed that little one and kept farming on the big one.
You really need to use the hotel developer trait. It really keeps the funds rolling with that free hotel. Does nice with the US as well. |
